LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

Thinking with your hands to unlock shared understanding

When challenges are complex, conversations alone are often not enough. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® enables teams to think with their hands—making assumptions, ideas, and tensions visible so they can be explored, aligned, and acted upon together.

By building models, people think more deeply, speak more honestly, and see system dynamics that remain hidden in discussion alone.

What is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a facilitated methodology that uses LEGO® bricks and structured questions to help teams think, communicate, and align. Participants build models to express ideas, explore perspectives, and make collective meaning tangible.

LSP is made to break down the 20-80 rule in meetings. Traditional meetings often privilege the loudest voices and abstract thinking. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® creates an equal (100-100) safe environment where every participant contributes—creating real shared understanding and alignment in teams.

Why LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

Traditional meetings favor the loudest voices (the 20-80 rule in meetings) and abstract thinking, leaving insight, ownership, and alignment untapped. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® exists to break this pattern—so every voice is heard, thinking becomes tangible, and teams build shared understanding and alignment around complex challenges in a psychologically safe way.

This is not play for play’s sake.
It is serious thinking, made tangible.

How we apply LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

Integrated into real transformation work

We don’t use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® as a standalone “fun workshop.”
We integrate it deliberately into your transformation journey.

Our facilitation approach:

  1. Clear intent—We start from a real challenge, not an abstract theme

  2. Structured build cycles—individual, shared, and team system-level models

  3. Guided reflection – Turning models into insights and decisions

  4. Connection to action – Linking outcomes to real work and next steps

When to use LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is especially powerful when teams are facing:

  • Strategic uncertainty or complexity

  • Alignment challenges across leadership or teams

  • Cultural or behavioral change initiatives

  • Innovation, redesign, or future vision work

  • Stuck conversations or unspoken tensions

It is particularly effective as a complement to transformation, change, and capability development initiatives, where clarity and commitment matter as much as plans.

What Leaders and Teams experience

Participants consistently report that LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®:

  • Creates psychological safety quickly

  • Enables deeper conversations without personal confrontation

  • Helps teams “see the system” they are part of

  • Builds ownership and shared language

  • Turns abstract change into something concrete and actionable

It is often described as surprisingly deep, highly engaging, and far more faster and effective than expected.

What LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is—and is not

It is:

  • A facilitated thinking and alignment method

  • Structured, purposeful, and outcome-driven

  • Grounded in real challenges and real work

It is not:

  • A game or icebreaker

  • A creativity gimmick

  • A one-size-fits-all workshop

  • A brainstorm session

  • A prototype workshop

  • A training-tool like LEGO4Scrum

The value lies in how it is facilitated and integrated, not in the bricks themselves.

How LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® fits in your Transformation Journey

LSP often supports:

Ready to make thinking tangible?

If your team is facing complexity, misalignment, or stuck conversations, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® can help unlock clarity and commitment—faster than traditional meetings.

Gemba Coaching

Gemba Coaching builds leadership and team capability through observation, reflection, and continuous improvement at the place where work happens.

Ability Development

Clear direction alone does not create results. Change succeeds when people have the ability and the capacity to act differently in real work situations. The Change Ability Assessment evaluates whether learning, practice, coaching, and available capacity enable sustainable execution.

Toyota Kata Coaching

Toyota Kata Coaching helps leaders and teams develop a daily improvement mindset through structured experimentation and coaching routines—embedded directly in real work, not workshops.
